Connor was itching to do something. He was sick of sitting at home, mulling and waiting for news on Noah—news on all his cases. He'd promised himself, promised Isa, he wouldn't do anything foolish, but if Isa or Primrose didn't contact him soon, he was going to try connecting to Noah. Consequences be damned.

He hadn't heard anything from Jason, either. The race was over, he knew that much. He just had no idea when Jason would be flying back.

When the doorbell rang, he practically threw himself down the stairs.

"Have I got news for you," Isa said when he opened the door.

"You've found Noah, and I can go back to work."

"Ah. Not exactly." She gave Connor a quick hug, grabbed his hand and dragged him up the stairs to his living room. Isa sat on his sofa, feet tucked under her, smiling apologetically as he sat next to her. "That lead we had? Got us nowhere. The man looked nothing like Noah. Though the strip club was fun. It took Roderick and me about half an hour to get all the men to leave. Got a free beer out of it and all."

"On duty?" he asked. Strip club. An image of a half-naked girl dancing for Noah sprang to mind, and Connor couldn't help but smile.

Isa winked at him, and Connor was glad she had no idea what he was thinking of. "Nah, we clocked out as soon as we found out the lead was a dud."

"So, if not that, what have you got?" As funny as it was, Connor was anxious for real news.

"Do you know Agent Vaine?"

"Francis, yes. He's a video engineer. Has only been with Primrose a couple of months, I think. He's been put on the CCTV recordings." Connor wondered who was handling his investigations now that he was suspended. Whoever it was, he hoped they didn't mess up.

"Video engineer? More like an all-round computer whizz. Anyway. Agent Vaine—Francis—scoured the internal cameras for the theft. Nothing showed up around five P.M. on Monday, when the theft supposedly happened, but he did find glitches around three A.M. that morning."

"Glitches?"

"Yes. Glitches. Same glitches he found on the recordings of the Langham theft."

"Same glitches, same thief?"

"That's what the boy wonder says. Don't ask me to repeat it. You'll have to read the report when you get back in, but it's got something to do with the way the videos are cut and pasted onto each other. Apparently, they're misaligned by a frame. Only the thief used some sort of filter first, which means that only part of that frame is visible. The filter isn't a standard one either. So for two different videos to have the exact same non-standard filter is too much of a coincidence."

Connor frowned. "Did those frames bring us something?"

Isa held her hand up. "Be patient. Because the CCTV recordings at Noah Jones' place early Monday morning show the exact same glitches."

"So the thief went from Primrose to Noah's?"

"That's what we think. Especially since Francis found out someone's been hacking into the computers.
